My #1 Issue

Global warming is the one issue that causes everyone to put aside their differences towards one another in order to save their planet which is why i consider global warming the most important issue. No other issue is going to dramatically change how everyone in the world lives their lives. No other issue, if left untouched, would destroy the planet. There are other important issues to be dealt with in the world but first you need to have a world in order to deal with them. If the stock market crashes or a war breaks out somewhere in the world human life continues. But if the world floods or the ozone layer breaks then we're not going to have the same luck. In order to stop this issue everyone in the world is going to have to change how they live their lives on way or another. These are the reasons why global warming is the number one issue.

  1. I think you explained yourself well Zach. The only point I can make is that it seems that while your opinions best reflect the viewpoint of a first-world individual, they don't articulate the third-world take on the matter. You said, no other issue, if left untouched, would destroy the planet." This may well be true, but it's an argument left in the abstract. We may care about it, but the impoverished and sick do not. And it's not due to lack of knowledge on the matter, but simply because to them, the "end of the world" conditions you've described have already happened. Also, you said that "if war breaks out somewhere in the world human life continues." Also true- ours does. But for the impoverished in this "somewhere" on earth, they do not survive these wars. It's all part of the reason their lives are inhumanely difficult and why our efforts must be directed at them, not the abstract. Good job though.

  2. By putting money and energy towards solving global warming, we are spending less time considering and taking into account other pressing issues around the world. Many countries are still dealing with economic downfalls, and by trying to make our planet more environmentally sustainable it also costs a lot of money that countries are trying to pay off in the first place. Good points though

  3. I think this issue is important as well and think you did a great job of displaying your opinion. However, I do not think that this is the time to be pouring massive amounts of money into revamping the way our society operates in order to try and deal with global warming. Other issues are much more pressing in terms of loss of human life and other things.

  4. I don't think that this is the most pressuring issue that our World faces. While we can still worry about long term issues such as global warming, time and effort needs to be put into the short term problems, such as hunger. While we worry about global warming, people are dying of starvation.
Your points are valid, but I disagree with your opinion.
    Good Job though :D

  5. Well said Zack! Global warming is a particular issue for countries that have an economy based on industrial production such as China that faced a great scale of pollution during the 2008 Olympics.

  6. I agree with what your saying to a certain extent. I do not think that global warming is the primary issue that needs to be adressed. However, I agree that countries and religions are creating wars, and the most effective way of uniting the world would be to bring everyone together to fight a common concern.
